Having honed and refined both their songwriting and live show over the last 2 years on the road with the likes of Stiff Little Fingers, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Dickies, The Damned, The 68' and The Picturebooks, the Bath-based noise duo entered the studio with producer Ben Findlay (Robert Plant, Peter Gabriel, Goldfrapp etc) with the aim of capturing the raw intensity of that live performance on record.
The EP finds the duo experimenting with a darker sound, developing textures within their limited setup of bass, drums and vocals to deliver their heaviest yet strangely, most pop-orientated and dynamic release to-date.
The 'This Is Earth' EP artwork was created by legendary 2000AD/Judge Dredd artist Shaky Kane who's punk pedigree and striking individual style instantly made the band want to collaborate with him.
Built on a love of listening to 80s punk tapes and watching old horror films, bassist Nick Wiltone (ex-The Operation / EMP!RE) and drummer Miles Per-Hour (ex-Haters / The Joe Public) formed their heartthrob duo with the purpose of stripping music back to its bones. The result is much like those early monochrome movies, a slick, eerie aesthetic on the surface, with a beast below. Drawing comparisons to bands such as Death From Above 1979 and The Bronx, the band themselves insist their influences lie in early 80s hardcore (Black Flag, The Misfits, The Ramones) and 50s pop (The Ronnettes, Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison). A bizarre blend of sweet and sour that makes Ghost Of The Avalanche unique in their sound.
